EUI signs a protocol of cooperation with Telecom Egypt to grant 16 full scholarships and another with NAID to integrate people with disabilities into Higher education and promote scientific research.

His Excellency, Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) and Telecom Egypt, the latter of which will grant 16 full scholarships for the top Thanaweya Amma achievers, as a strategic sponsor for their studies at EUI within the initiative of his excellency, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The protocol was signed by Prof. Reem Bahgat, President of EUI, and Mr. Karim Youssef, Executive Vice President for Human Resources of Telecom Egypt.

Dr. Talaat visited EUI during his inspection tour of the Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital. The City applies the latest technological systems to build an integrated information society that attracts global investments and stimulates digital creativity. The Minister inspected the construction updates and was closely acquainted with the execution position of the project’s first phase, which will be finalized this year.

Dr. Talaat also attended the signing of a cooperation agreement between EUI and the National Academy for Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities (NAID). The agreement aims to integrate and empower persons with disabilities in the university education system and to support scientific research, development, and entrepreneurship in the field of assistive technologies, in addition to participating in applied scientific research and cooperation with industrial organizations, as part of the national plan of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to support and build the capacities of stakeholders in line with Egypt’s 2030 vision for sustainable development. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Prof. Reem Bahgat, EUI’s President, and Dr. Abdel Monem El-Sharkawy, Chairman of NAID.

Dr. Talaat explained that the Knowledge City is one of the most prominent pioneering projects established by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology within the framework of building a digital Egypt, with its various activities to support research and innovation in advanced technologies, develop digital skills and enhance digital creativity. Its importance also lies in attracting investments from international technology companies and adapting cutting-edge technologies to advance Egypt’s digital transformation.

“The two agreements were signed to complement the active partnerships established by EUI to create a unique educational and research environment and create a base of digital cadres and information technology experts,” said the Minister of Communications and Information Technology. The two agreements support the EUI’s efforts to provide full scholarships to the top Thanaweya Amma achievers, support research and development, and encourage entrepreneurship in assistive technologies.

In a related context, The Minister held an interactive dialogue that lasted more than two hours with EUI’s students to listen to their opinions and suggestions and learn about their future ideas. The Minister of Communications praised the ideas and scientific vision that they gained during the study period.

 Dr. Talaat stressed that EUI offers outstanding training opportunities for EUI students in cooperation with international companies. Leaders and officials of global companies in Communications and Information Technology will be invited to have extensive discussions with the students, to raise awareness of various technological specializations and required fields in the current and future labor market.

Meanwhile, Prof. Reem Bahgat said: “We are always happy with the visit of Dr. Amr Talaat, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, to EUI’s premises and the knowledge city, and his meeting with the students and his interest in following up on their scientific and skill progress and identifying their needs.

“This cooperation provides an opportunity to invest in human wealth as a key axis of development by enhancing students on the academic level while maximizing their abilities to engage in a world-class education system,” Prof. Bahgat added. “This is crucial in building their future, as it enables them to co-lead technological and economic development in line with achieving the desired sustainable development.”

Prof. Mohamed Al-Sharkawi, Vice-President of the University for Academic Affairs, highlighted that EUI is continuously developing academic programs to be integrated globally as per the partnerships with world rankings prestigious universities. EUI has dual degree agreements with top-ranked universities such as the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in the United States (#29  in computer science according to the US News, 2021) in various specializations of Computer Science and Purdue West Lafayette University (#4 in engineering, US News, 2022 in the program of Computer Engineering, as well as Electronics and Communications.”

Prof. Al-Sharkawi said the university aims to prepare future leaders, create a knowledge-based economy and find innovative solutions with global impact. He said the university knows the great importance and benefits of collaborating with major national institutions to grant scholarships to top Thanaweya Amma students and provide them with the latest educational, training, and research methods in our advanced academic programs.

The Minister was accompanied by the top management of MCIT and several Communications and Information Technology entities, including Eng. Raafat Hindi, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Infrastructure, and Eng. Amr Mahfouz, Executive President of the Information Technology Industry Development Authority (ITDA); Dr. Hossam Othman, Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Technological Innovation and Electronics Industry; Dr. Heba Saleh, Director of the Information Technology Institute; Dr. Iman Ashour, Director of the National Institute of Communications, and Dr. Abdel Monem El-Sharkawy, Director of the National Academy of Information Technology for People with Disabilities. The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Mohamed Al-Sharkawi, Vice President of EUI for Academic Affairs, Faculties’ Deans, several faculty members, Administrative Staff, and students.
