Prof. Amr El-Sherif

Biography

Prof. Amr A. El-Sherif is a professor of Electrical Engineering. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Alexandria University, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA. After completing the PhD, Prof. El-Sherif worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Computer Science and Engineering Dept, Qatar University, for two years. He then returned to Alexandria University as an assistant professor. He joined Axxcelera Egypt as a senior research engineer on a part-time basis for 1.5 years. During this period, he was responsible for developing and implementing scheduling algorithms at the LTE base station. Between Sept. 2015 and Sept. 2021 he was the ECE program director at Nile University, Egypt. He was also the director of the Wireless Intelligent Networks Center (WINC) at Nile University between Sept. 2017 and sept. 2019. Prof. El-Sherif joined the Faculty of Engineering, Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) in Feb. 2022, has been appointed as the head of the Electronics and Communication dept., and is currently the acting Dean of the faculty of Engineering.

Research Interests
  • The broad area of design and performance analysis of wireless networks with emphasis on cognitive radios and networks
  • Cooperative communications and networking
  • Cross-layer design
  • MAC
  •  Scheduling and resource allocation
  •  The applications of machine learning in communication networks. 

He has more than 70 research papers published in major journals and conferences. He has worked on multiple funded research projects where he served as a PI or co-PI.

  • Prof. El-Sherif is a Senior Member of the IEEE and has served on the technical program committees of major IEEE conferences.
Achievements
  • Medal of Excellence in 2017 from the Egyptian government.
  • State Encouragement Award in Engineering Sciences in 2015
