Biography

Prof. Ashraf Mahran received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, in 2003. In 2004, he joined the faculty at the Military Technical College (MTC) in Cairo, Egypt, where he has since built a distinguished academic and professional career.

Prof. Mahran has taught a wide spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate courses across multiple Egyptian universities, making significant contributions to engineering education. He has supervised numerous Master's and Ph.D. theses and has authored over 45 research papers published in leading international journals and conferences. He is also an active reviewer for several prestigious IEEE and IET Transactions, with a focus on communications and signal processing.

His research portfolio includes participation in several national and international projects. Notably, he was a collaborator in a joint Egypt–Canada research project at the University of Calgary in 2012. From 2013 to 2014, he served as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Ohio State University, USA. In recognition of his professional achievements and academic contributions, he was elected as a Senior Member of the IEEE in 2019.

In addition to his academic and research activities, Prof. Mahran has held several senior administrative roles, including Head of Department, Associate Dean for Education, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dean of Engineering. In 2025, he was awarded the State Decoration of the Second-Class Order of the Republic in recognition of his outstanding service to the field of engineering and higher education.
